Who can change roles
You can let a team lead manage your team without letting them make themselves, or anyone else, an admin. These rules apply in every screen and are also checked by 10Seat when the change is saved.
Where to find it
HQ › User Management › Manage Access on a person's row. Fields you are not allowed to change are greyed out, with a note explaining why.
What it does
People with Manage users and invitations can manage the team. What they may change depends on whether they are an Owner or Admin themselves.
| Who | Tries to | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Team lead (custom role with Manage users and invitations) | Change their own location role, for example to Admin | Not allowed |
| Team lead | Make someone else Admin or Owner, or give an Admin-tier custom role | Not allowed |
| Team lead | Change a non-admin's location role, for example Manager → Viewer | Allowed |
| Team lead | Change the role or locations of someone who is an Admin | Not allowed |
| Team lead | Change someone's company role | Not allowed |
| Owner or Admin | Make someone Admin at a location, or change anyone's company role | Allowed |
| Anyone | Change the Owner's company role | Not allowed (ownership is transferred, not assigned) |
Location access follows the same rules: nobody without admin rights changes their own locations, and only Owners and Admins change an admin's locations.
How to let a team lead manage the team
- Create a custom role (for example "Team lead") with Manage users and invitations ticked, plus the operational permissions they need. See "Create, copy and edit a custom role".
- Give it to the team lead in HQ › User Management › Manage Access.
- The team lead can now invite people and change non-admin roles and locations, but can't hand out admin rights.
Good to know
- Nobody can change their own location role, not even an Admin. Ask another Owner or Admin.
- 10Seat support can make these changes during a support session.
Troubleshooting
"You can't change your own location role." Ask another Owner or Admin to change it.
"Only owners and admins can change an admin's location access." The person is an admin. Ask an Owner or Admin.
"Only owners and admins can grant an admin-level role or change an admin's role" You picked Owner, Admin or an Admin-tier custom role, or the person is an admin. Ask an Owner or Admin.
"You cannot change your own location assignments" Ask an Owner or Admin to change which locations you can access.
