Work with the timeline

Included in all plansHost AppFor hosts

Needs: Any staff user

The timeline shows every table as a row and every reservation as a block across the service hours, so you can see at a glance which tables are free, when, and for how long.

Where to find it

Host App › Service View › Timeline button (clock icon). On a phone: View › Timeline.

What it does

  • Rows: one row per table, grouped By section (default) or By capacity. The left column shows the table name and the party sizes it can be booked for (min–max).
  • Blocks: each reservation is drawn from its start time for its duration. Seated parties start at the time they were actually seated. Double bookings and parties too big for the table are flagged on the block.
  • NOW line: a marker at the current time when you look at today.
  • Slot stats row (under the hours): arrivals and covers per booking slot compared with capacity. It can be hidden with the Timeline slot stats toggle in Settings.
  • Toolbar: Comfort/Compact rows, group by section or capacity, and search. Hidden in Simple mode (toggle Timeline toolbar).
  • Walk-in bar (bottom, today only): Walk-in: with buttons 1–8 and a custom party size.
  • Closed hours are shaded and labelled Closed.

How to add a reservation from the timeline

  1. Hover (or long-press on a tablet) over an empty part of a table row. A dashed marker shows the start time and the duration that fits.
    • Blue: the full default duration fits.
    • Amber: Limited slot – only the shown number of minutes is free before the next booking.
    • Green, close to the NOW line: Click to seat a walk-in now.
  2. Click or tap to open the reservation form with that table, time and duration filled in.
  3. Complete the form (see "Create a reservation in the Host App").

How to close or reopen a time slot for online booking

  1. Tap the hour label in the timeline header. The tooltip says "open (click to close)" or "closed (click to reopen)".
  2. A message confirms "Slot … closed for booking" or "Slot … reopened for booking".

This only affects online availability for that slot on that date. Staff can still book the slot in the Host App. The feature is hidden in Simple mode (toggle Close time slots).

Good to know

  • The order of sections in the timeline can be changed per device in Settings › Tables › Timeline section order.
  • On touch screens, hold a block for about half a second before dragging it; a normal swipe pans the timeline.
  • On a phone the timeline has a Time range switch (Focus around now or Full shift), Jump to now, zoom buttons, and a Seat walk-in button.
  • Completed and no-show reservations can be hidden with Settings › Tables › Show completed & no-show.

Troubleshooting

Nothing happens when I tap an empty row On touch screens you need a long-press, not a quick tap. The marker also does not appear while a walk-in is being placed: finish or cancel the walk-in first.

The walk-in buttons at the bottom are missing They only appear when you are looking at today.

I can't close a time slot by tapping the hour The Close time slots feature is hidden on this device (Simple mode). Switch to Advanced or turn the toggle on in Settings › General › Display mode, or use Availability › Time slots instead.

"Failed to update time slot" The change could not be saved, usually because of a connection problem. Check the connection and tap the hour again.

A reservation I expect is not on the timeline Check that the right date and All Day are selected, and that completed or no-show bookings are not hidden in Settings. Cancelled bookings are in the Reservation bin.
