Gift voucher rules — currency, default expiry and where vouchers appear
The Rules tab holds the settings that apply to every new voucher, and controls where guests can see and buy vouchers.
Where to find it
Backoffice › Settings › Gift Vouchers › Rules tab.
What it does
Money & validity
- Currency — the currency used for gift vouchers. Defaults to the location currency (shown next to the field) if not set.
- Default Expiry Days — how many days after purchase a voucher stays valid, from 1 to 3650. Default 365.
Where vouchers appear
- Enable Gift Voucher Widget — shows or hides the gift voucher button ("Buy gift vouchers") on the booking widget's launcher, and opens or closes the public voucher shop. Staff can still create vouchers by hand when it is off.
- Guests can add a gift voucher when booking — shows "I have a gift voucher" in the booking widget. The code is checked and linked to the reservation; nothing is charged until staff redeem it. Voucher holders also get a "Book a table with this voucher" button on their voucher page. See "Link gift vouchers to reservations".
A note reminds you that reports on sold and redeemed vouchers are under Gift Vouchers in the main menu.
How to set it up
- Open Settings › Gift Vouchers › Rules.
- Choose the currency and set the default number of days.
- Switch Enable Gift Voucher Widget and Guests can add a gift voucher when booking on or off.
- Click Save changes.
Good to know
- The default expiry applies to new vouchers only. Existing vouchers keep their date; change those one by one (see "Change or extend a gift voucher's expiry date").
- Staff creating a voucher by hand can set a different expiry date for that voucher.
- The default expiry is counted from the moment the voucher is issued (for online sales: when the payment is confirmed).
- Keep the voucher currency the same as your location currency: some screens (redemption and reports) show amounts in the location currency.
- The "Buy gift vouchers" launcher button only appears on the bubble widget for a single location, not on multi-location widgets.
- Enable Gift Voucher Widget can't be switched on until the selling requirements are complete.
Troubleshooting
The "Buy gift vouchers" button doesn't show on my widget Check Enable Gift Voucher Widget is on and saved. The button appears on the single-location bubble launcher; embedded or multi-location widgets don't show it.
"I have a gift voucher" doesn't show in the booking widget Guests can add a gift voucher when booking is off, or the gift voucher add-on is off for this location.
The Enable Gift Voucher Widget switch is greyed out The selling requirements (legal details and terms) are not complete. See "Complete the legal details needed to sell gift vouchers".
New vouchers still get 365 days after I changed the setting The change wasn't saved. Click Save changes and wait for Settings saved successfully.
