What Coco can and cannot do
Coco works through a fixed set of capabilities. This article lists them in plain language, with the role permission each one needs. The same list applies in the backoffice panel, on the Setup page and in the Coco staff app.
Where to find it
Ask Coco from the Coco button in the backoffice top bar, from the Setup page, or in the Coco staff app.
What it does
Look things up (read only)
- Venue overview for today: hours, today's reservations, tables, sections, experiences, special days — needs "View service floor and dashboard".
- Setup progress: what is complete, needs attention or is missing — same permission.
- Reservations for a date or a period of up to 14 days (up to 300 bookings), or one reservation in detail — "View reservations and timeline".
- Guest profiles: notes, tags, VIP, visits — "View guest profiles".
- Today brief (shifts, allergies, VIPs, large parties, notes) and trends compared with the previous period and last year — "View analytics and reports".
- Waitlist and live queue — "View waitlist and queue".
- Recent reviews with average rating — "View guest reviews".
- Recent guest chats — "View guest messages". Recent email activity and failures — "View email activity".
Make changes
- Create a confirmed reservation — "Create new reservations". Duration follows your venue rules.
- Change date, time, party size, duration or special requests; change status (confirmed, seated, completed, no-show…); add a staff-only note — "Edit existing reservations".
- Cancel a reservation — "Cancel or delete reservations". Always asks.
- Assign or replace tables — "Assign or move tables for reservations". Always asks.
- Update a guest profile: notes, tags, VIP, staff note — "Edit guest profiles".
- Reply in a guest chat — "Send messages to guests". Always asks.
- Send a custom email to a guest — "Send emails and manage templates". Always asks.
- Day availability like the Day planner: close or reopen services for a day or period, block or reopen a range of booking times (for example 16:00–18:00), edit or delete a special day — "Edit hours and shifts". Always asks.
- Weekly opening hours, booking rules (how far ahead guests can book, default duration, booking cut-off, buffers, staff max party size, auto-complete), widget branding (colours, font, logo), widget rules (time-slot interval, min/max party size, bigger-group requests), guest app rules (cancellation and change cut-offs, intake questions) — "Edit hours and shifts". Always asks.
- Email automations on or off (confirmation, reminders, reconfirmation, post-visit review) — "Send emails and manage templates". Always asks.
- Open or close one section or one table for online booking on one date — "Create, edit, and delete tables and sections". Always asks.
Good to know
Coco cannot:
- Change payments, deposits or payment providers, users and roles, subscriptions and add-ons, the floor plan layout, experiences, or integrations.
- Export data, or connect to other services.
- Work on a location other than the one selected.
- Do anything your own role doesn't allow.
When you ask for something outside its capabilities, Coco says so and records the request for 10Seat.
Troubleshooting
Coco refuses with "You do not have permission to use that Coco capability" Your role lacks the permission listed above. An admin can change roles under Settings › Roles & Permissions.
Coco changed the booking rules but our widget still shows old times Check the change was confirmed (the card disappears and Coco reports the result). Then check the widget preview; other rules, such as shifts or special days, may also limit times.
Coco wants to close a whole day when I only wanted a few slots Be precise: "block online booking on 12 June from 16:00 to 18:00". Always read the confirmation card before clicking Confirm.
