Change hours, close or halt bookings for one date
Use a day override when one date is different from your normal week: a closed day, an extra brunch, a later opening or a section you can't use. The change applies to that date only.
Where to find it
Backoffice › Planning › Service Calendar › click the date › Day Specific tab.
What it does
The day drawer has these controls, top to bottom:
- Halt online / Resume online. Sets the day to Closed for Reservations: the restaurant stays open, but the widget takes no new reservations. Guests see "Waitlist Only" for that date and can join the waitlist if you use the Waitlist add-on.
- Set day as closed / Reopen day. Closes the whole day. You confirm in a dialog ("Set day as closed?"). Reopening a weekday that is normally closed opens it with the shifts you use on your other weekdays.
- Opening times. Each shift for the date, with:
- Edit shift times: change the open and close time for this date (Shift open time, Shift close time, Save shift times).
- Close Shift / Reopen Shift: take one shift out for this date. Closing the last shift closes the day.
- Shifts marked Other weekday exist on another weekday; tap Reopen to run them on this date too.
- Add one-off shift: enter a Shift name, Shift open time and Shift close time, then Add shift.
- Sections. Shows whether each section is bookable that day. Close a section for one shift or for the whole day, and reopen it the same way.
- Experiences. With the Reservation experiences add-on, each experience shows its bookings and guests for the day. Enable for day offers an experience on a date it normally doesn't run; Disable for day hides it for that date.
How to close one shift on one date
- Open the date in Planning › Service Calendar.
- Under Opening times, click Close Shift next to the shift.
- A confirmation "Shift closed successfully" appears. The widget stops offering that shift for the date.
How to add an extra service for one date
- Open the date and go to Opening times.
- Under Add one-off shift, enter a name (for example "Brunch") and its hours in 24-hour format.
- Click Add shift. The shift is saved for this date only.
Good to know
- Booking cut-offs and the Last Booking Slot Time you set for a weekly shift also apply when that shift runs on an override date. A rule set on the override itself wins.
- A one-off shift must open before it closes on the same day; overnight one-off shifts are not accepted.
- An experience can only be enabled for a day when a shift it runs in is open that day.
- Closing a section online blocks widget bookings for its tables. Your team can still seat guests there manually.
- For today's service you can do most of this faster in the Host App with Availability (see "Manage a day's availability in the Host App").
Troubleshooting
"Enter a shift name and valid hours (open before close, 24h format)." The one-off shift has no name, or its open time isn't before its close time. Fix the times and try again.
"Add opening hours on at least one weekday in location settings, or set shifts manually." You tried to reopen a day but no weekday has shifts to copy. Add shifts in Settings › Location hours and shifts, or add a one-off shift for the date.
"Day is completely closed. Please reopen the day first to modify individual shifts." Reopen the day first, then change its shifts.
"Open a shift this experience runs in first." The experience is tied to shifts that are closed on this date. Reopen one of those shifts, then enable the experience.
I changed the hours but the widget still shows the old times The widget refreshes in the background; give it a short moment and reload. If the banner "Updating booking widget availability…" is showing, wait until it disappears.
